When I was growing up we had several pets. Mostly dogs. Mostly mixed breeds, so we called them A1. We did have a poodle for a while. One of our dogs was a dachshund. When we moved to a new house he ate the newly planted little tree down. I didn’t know that a dog would eat a tree, but he did. At one time we had some rabbits. They were always getting out of the wire house we made for them and they multiplied like crazy. So we got rid of them.
After I was married and had my own kids, I decided to get them a dog. I looked in the Green Sheet and found some puppies that were being given away free. We got the last one, the brunt of the litter. She was pretty ugly but made a good dog until my wife tried to push her in the doghouse and got bit. We got another dog but the neighbor kept reporting him to the city for barking. The judge advised me to put an electric collar on the dog to stop him from barking. It was awful the first day, but after that he never barked again for three years when we moved to another neighborhood.
The dog died, my kids left home and my wife wanted another pet to keep her company. I guess I wasn’t good enough company for her. Anyway I didn’t want anymore pets but of course I gave in. When she came home from going after the puppy, I asked her, “Well, did you get your dog?” “I got two of them” she meekly replied. “Two!” I said in surprise. “That was not our deal.” “But her brother was so cute I couldn’t take her and leave him” she cried. My son and his wife took the male puppy and we kept the female. Her name is Little Lady Lynzy.
I’ll tell you more about Lynzy in another article soon, but let me just tell you pets have always been a part of my life. They are a lot of trouble sometimes but are also a lot of fun and good company. Just another part of better living.
